The reason for this presentation was the project of a Kurd and professional cameraman who had interviewed Jemal in 1989 and was planning a film with this material, in which he also agreed to present the Jemal Nebez Foundation. He came to Berlin twice for filming, the first time on Sunday 31 May 2024 and then a second time to record more places that were important to Jemal's life in Berlin. The second time he came on Friday 19 May (Good Friday) and filmed on Saturday and Sunday.
When I realised that he knew little about Jemal's life in Berlin and Germany, nor about me and Jemal's life, I wrote this chronology and sent it to him in Word and via WhatsApp.
I wrote it based on the photos I had picked out for it, assuming that he would use these photos for the film. But that wasn't the case.
I am now very busy looking through Jemal's personal estate (papers and documents, decorations/pictures/photos). I probably won't get round to adding to this account or writing a new one. Jemal's estate in my flat is extensive.
I have had all of this, and more at first, since transferring the apartment to the foundation's ownership and renting it out in my apartment, which I now want to clear out a good four years after setting up the foundation, including many of my own things. I have left the manuscript “Jemals + Hanne Timeline” essentially unchanged for this digital publication on my website and on my Facebook dedicated to the foundation. I have numbered the photos and explained them a little. I believe it is important for the foundation that it is published.
I hope that the foundation will find many supporters. I have conceived it in such a way that it will live on for all time on the basis of Jemal's way of life, his values and his work, through its statutes and the active help of his old and all new friends. His life was not long enough to experience what he, as a thinker and pioneer of Kurdology, unforgettably advocated in writing and speech as a possible path for his maltreated people.
May his foundation remain and may much of this be achieved in freedom and in the spirit of Jemal Nebez.
